Item Description

Axinite is not a commonly seen mineral from Pakistan. These Axinite-(Fe) specimens from Khapalu are from an "Alpine-type" "kleft" deposit in the high mountains, very similar to the better known "Alpine-type" Axinites from Russia, or true Alpine Axinites from Europe. This piece is a fine, gemmy, sharp, lustrous, well-formed, tabular, "wedge"-shaped crystal of clove purple colored Axinite-(Fe) with a tiny bit of attached matrix. The crystal is in superb condition, save a contact on the back that is not really visible on the display side. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#13226). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
