Item Description
Axinite crystals are rarely found in crystals over 1-2 cm, but the lesser known locality at Khapalu in Pakistan has produced some really impressive examples in recent years. This miniature is a fine, fairly gemmy, sharp, lustrous, well-formed, "wedge"-shaped crystal of clove colored Axinite-(Fe) free of matrix. What really makes this piece stand out to me is the sheer THICKNESS of the crystal, as Axinites are typically much thinner and tabular in habit. The piece is from an "Alpine-type" "kleft" deposit in the high mountains of Pakistan, very similar to the better known "Alpine-type" Axinites from Russia, or true Alpine Axinites from Europe. This is a very good sized crystal of Axinite regardless of locality or species! The crystal is in very good condition, with a bit of edge wear and a spot on the side where another crystal once grew. An impressive and worthwhile Axinite-(Fe) crystal from this limited find. Valued at $600.
