Item Description

A predominant, thick, gemmy, sharp, lustrous, well-formed, "wedge"-shaped crystal of golden brown to clove purple colored Axinite-(Fe) aesthetically sit atop of additional Axinite crystal matrix. The main crystal on the specimen measures 5.1 cm, which is very good sized for the locality and the pseices in general. As you can see, the main crystal really attracts the eye, and although it's contacted on one side, it's still in great shape all around with notably well-formed faces. I have to stress that particular crystal is notably THICK for the species, and shows great internal gemminess when backlt. Minor associated crystals of greenish Clinozoisite can be seen as well. A very showy overall piece of this elusive material. From an "Alpine-type" "kleft" deposit in the high mountains of Pakistan, very similar to the better known "Alpine-type" Axinites from Russia, or true Alpine Axinites from Europe. If the main crystal was undamaged, I could see the piece retailing for $1,500-$2,000, but obviously it's less with the contact. Rarely are the Axinites from this locality found with such attractive free-standing isolated crystals like this one!
