Item Description
Here we have an attractive small cabinet sized specimen of Axinite-(Fe) from this "Alpine-type" cleft deposit in Pakistan. Good crystallized specimens of Axinite-(Fe) are not found from many world localities, and these contemporary pieces don't get enough credit in my mind for their quality. The crystals fairly gemmy with sharp faces, good luster and that classic "wedge"-shaped habit. The color is a clove purple hue, and when the crystals are backlit, they have a pleasing appearance. The largest crystal measures 2.6 cm. There is a some roughness in spots, but overall it's in decent condition. If you collect "Alpine-type" minerals, this is something that you rarely see on the market. These crystals compare quite favorably to the famous metamorphic Axinites that came out of Russia in the 1990s or true Alpine Axinites from France that were the standard for Axinite-(Fe) for a long time. This is an older specimen going back to the mid 2000s.
