Item Description

A cool specimen of Austinite with from the famous Gold Hill Mine in Utah, which is arguably the best-known locality for the species in the United States. Austinite is a calcium zinc arsenate named after Austin Flint Rogers, an American mineralogist at Stanford University. This piece features attractive scattered groups of soft yellow colored Austinite with excellent gemminess and vitreous luster on matrix. The Austinite groups really look great up close. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
