Item Description

Here we have a very rarely seen specimen of Aurichalcite from the famed Grandview Mine, which lies in the Grand Canyon. Collecting is completely forbidden today, and the mine actually closed in 1916, but in the 1960s-1970s, collectors would sneak into the old workings and pull out specimens. The most well-known species from this mine is Cyanotrichite, but Aurichalcite specimens are incredibly hard to find. This is one of the very few we've had to offer over the years, and it's a great example with a rich coverage of deep blue-green colored crystals in "spray"-like groups, on oxidized matrix. Great quality up close, we've photographed the crystals with a macro lens to better illustrate the quality. If you collect Arizona minerals, secondary ore minerals or specimens from the Grandview Mine, this is a good quality example, not a reference specimen, to add to your collection.
