Aurichalcite (classic material) (1965)

Item Description

A classic old-time Aurichalcite specimen from the famous Ojuela Mine dating back to 1965! This small cabinet piece hosts a coverage of rich blue colored acicular crystals of Aurichalcite, coating the oxidized matrix. The back of the specimen features more matted / compressed Aurichalcite, giving it an almost "gemmy" quality, similar to Hemimorphite or Smithsonite if that makes sense. A beautiful piece of this iconic material that was acquired nearly 60 years ago.
From the collection of the beloved mineral dealer and collector Rock H. Currier (1940-2015). Collection #540. Rock was the long-time owner of Jewel Tunnel Imports (named after the large open vugs in basalt in India which were often filled with crystals). Rock travelled the world in search of mineral specimens, and built and impressive collection over his lifetime. He was one of the more colorful and unforgettable figures in the mineral world.
