Item Description

Gorgeous vivid sky-blue sprays of acicular aurichalcite crystals are beautifully festooned on the sculptural gossan small cabinet matrix on this striking and excellent specimen from the famous mines at Bisbee. Aurichalcite is relatively uncommon secondary Zn-Cu carbonate from Bisbee. Ex Bill Panczner Collection: Bill was the first Curator of Earth Science at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum in 1974 and the author of the 1987 book Minerals of Mexico. It is the most thorough summary of the subject. Read about Bill in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive at: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/labels.asp?colid=841. Undoubtedly old-time material, possibly dating to prior to World War I, but no proof. An exceptional, rich and classic aurichalcite from Bisbee. I cannot say as I have seen others comparable for sale. This is far more rare than any similar example from Mexico, and I am told dates back to the 1950s or before. Value???
