Item Description

From the valley where Fassaite gets it's name, here is a beautiful old time display specimen of this Augite varietal featuring an 8 mm, sharp, lustrous, well-formed twin aesthetically sitting on matrix. The "Fassasite" has a soft greenish hue with a slight golden overtone. Originally Fassaite was a valid species, but it's now defined as a low-iron variety of Augite. A great piece of this historic Alpine material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12088). The piece comes with a label from A. Berger of Vienna stating that was from the collection of Dr. Hans v. Karabacek. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
