Augelite (fine color)

Item Description

Augelite is a relatively rare phosphate species, typically found in white or colorless crystals, but some of the most beautiful (and well-known) crystals of the material are found in the Yukon Territory. This treacherous collecting area is only accessible for a few months per year and is rather hazard terrain for collecting specimens, with steep talus slopes and unstable ground. Anyone who has collected at Rapid Creek will tell you it's one of the most remote and difficult places you can go to collect minerals. What really makes the Augelites from this locality special is the rare green color they exhibit. This piece hosts many fine quality, attractive, sharp, lustrous, gemmy/translucent green monoclinic crystals of Augelite on matrix. The largest Augelite measures 1.1 cm, which is very good sized for the locality. I have not seen many of these specimens on the market in the last few years, and you collect phosphates, Canadian minerals, or specimens from Rapid Creek, this is a good example to add to your collection.
