Item Description

Atelestite is an very rare bismuth hydroxy arsenate, and the some of the best examples of the species are those from the type locality, the Neuhilfe Mine in Saxony, Germany. The species gets its name from the Greek word άτελής (átelís) which means "incomplete", so it is believed that scientists did not know its full chemical composition when it was first described. This piece features fine quality, micro, gemmy bright yellow color Atelestite crystal clusters with dark Smoky Quartz crystals on matrix. If you flip the piece over, you can see thin veinlets of massive Atelestite running throughout the piece. This is definitely a micro specimen, and we have photographed the crystals with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to illustrate the quality. An excellent example of this incredibly hard to find material from the first locality where it was ever found. From the collection of noted species collector Paolo Matioli of Brazil, who specialized in rarities around the world.
