Item Description

An attractive association specimen featuring micro crystals of deep emerald green Atacamite associated with a light blue-green colored coverage of Bandylite on host rock matrix. The piece is only labeled as coming from Antofagasta, Chile, so it's difficult to know specifically which mine is came from, though it could be the Queténa Mine. While Atacamite is one of the most well-known minerals from Chile, Bandylite is much rarer, and is literally only found in three localities in the world. Atacamite was named after the famous Atacama Desert, while Bandylite was named after the famous mineralogist, Mark C. Bandy, who first discovered it. We have photographed the Atacamite crystals with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. A cool specimen for any fan of minerals from Chile or secondary copper species. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#6305). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
