Item Description
Sparkly forest-green microcrystals and crusts richly cover the vuggy matrix on this VERY RARE atacamite specimen from a most obscure locality in Mineral County, Nevada. MINDAT does not list atacamite for Mineral County or a Warner Mine in Mineral County. Old-time material from the Philadelphia Academy of Sciences (the numbers match) and also comes with a Smithsonian label with the specimen sourced by William Foshag (1894-1956). William was the Curator of the Department of Geology at the Smithsonian. A rare, perhaps UNIQUE, Nevada atacamite, a piece of history! Sadly, the dealers that ended up with the collection never cared about history or the legacy, never documented this kind of thing, sold them cheaply, and they were lost to the winds, only to turn up by luck, later.
