Atacamite (Philadelphia Academy)

Item Description

A classic, significant and large specimen of atacamite from the type locality for the species. This is an old specimen and is richly covered with sparkling, almost wet-looking, rich emerald-green, rather gemmy, thin bladed crystals on matrix. A great, colorful "old time" specimen of this copper hydroxyhalide. Ex Academy of Natural Sciences Philadelphia Collection (circa late 1800s) and probably obtained in the 1920s or 1930s for the Academy. Valued at $450.
