Atacamite (classic material)

Item Description

A very good old-time specimen of Atacamite, from the type locality for the species. This small cabinet specimen is filled with beautiful, LARGE, dark emerald green colored bladed crystals of measuring up to a full 1.0 cm on matrix. This is an older specimen as it comes with an historic label from the legendary mineral dealer, Hugh A. Ford. Since the label has Ford's New York address it dates to at least 1946-1957, but could easily date to the early 20th century. Pieces like this are seldom seen on the market, as Atacamite crystals are typically measured in mm, so to find a piece with crystals up to 1 cm is a big deal. Most of the crystals are good shape, but there are some broken crystals, so the piece is not completely damage free. A very impressive, truly display quality example of this beloved copper hydroxyhalide. Valued $2,000.
