Item Description

Artinite is a rare carbonate mineral found in low-temperature hydrothermal environments as veinlets or crusts along fracture surfaces in serpentinized ultrabasic rocks. Spherical tufts of pearlescent, snow-white and pastel-green acicular fibers fill a 3.5 vug and crystal sprays richly cover the serpentine matrix on this rich and showy specimen from a well-known Italian locale. This locality is famous for such pieces and this is a good one. Ex Matioli Collection.
