Item Description
Two extremely well-formed balls of Artinite (a hydrated Magnesium Carbonate Hydroxide) highlight this miniature from the historic area of San Benito County, California. The two balls of Artinite are acicular, almost velvety, with the largest being a full 2.1 cm across. Bearing a strong resemblance to many of the famous zeolites, this is a most unusual habit for a carbonate. The aesthetics are choice, as the two balls, in excellent condition, present differently. The smaller rests atop the matrix, while the larger cluster is nestled in a thin matrix nest, creating an interesting and balanced look for the piece. A California classic, this was #5266 in Kay's collection.
