Item Description

The famous Yaogangxian Mine has produced some of the most well-known and high quality mineral specimens from any Chinese mineral locality. This piece is a wonderful miniature sized display specimen featuring multiple, superb quality beautiful "cocks comb" crystal groups of highly lustrous, sharp, metallic brassy-silver colored Arsenopyrite with minor Muscovite matrix. The largest crystal group measures 1.7 at it longest dimension. I have not seen many specimens with this attractive form, and it must be said that fewer and fewer pieces have been coming out of this mine in recent years, so don't miss out. This specimen comes from the collection of our own Alex Venzke (#112.19), member of the leadership team of the Young Mineral Collectors group, a member of the mindat.org management team, a board member for the national Friends of Mineralogy organization, a board member for the Mineralogical Society of the District of Columbia, and co-founder and current Vice President of the Friends of Mineralogy Virginia Chapter. The piece originally came from the collection of beloved dealer and collector, Rock Currier ( (https://www.mindat.org/article.php/2269/Obituary%3A+Rock+Currier+1940-2015) (https://mineralogicalrecord.com/biographies_labels/currierrock/).
