Arsenic-bearing Vanadinite on Wulfenite & Calcite

Crusts of tiny, acicular, brown arsenic-rich Vanadinite crystals (formerly called Endlichite until recent years) nearly totally cover the sculptural, large, mounded 360-degree plate of aesthetically intergrown, blocky Wulfenite crystals from the famed Erupcion Mine at Los Lamentos. The large coated crystals on the top reach 2.1 cm. The thin bone-white Calcite matrix is a typical accessory. Periphery wear reveals the underlying lustrous, butterscotch-colored wulfenite prisms, adding color and character. The 4.5 cm grotto on one side is a nifty complement and accent. Older material, wulfenite with vanadinite coatings of this style came out in the 1960s to 1980s. See the 2003 Mineralogical Record article in Mexico Special Issue III, Vol. 34, No. 6.
