Item Description

This specimen is part of the 2021 Dallas Mineral Collecting Symposium benefit auction, with proceeds benefiting Mineralogical Record, Rocks & Minerals, Tucson Gem and Mineral Society, and mindat.org. Thanks to all of our participants!

Billing for this auction will occur on Monday, August 23, for payment using PayPal or a credit card. Shipping will be billed at cost.

Located about 30 minutes by car from Hot Springs, Arkansas this famous mine was opened in 1865, forgotten, and then rediscovered by James Zigras after seeing some fascinating old pieces in the Smithsonian Museum! It produces many unique combinations such as quartz crystals with golden adularia phantoms on crystallized white adularia. His company, Avant Mining has recently rehabilitated the old mine and started commercial collecting. He will open a pocket of crystals in the main vein for the winning bidder! This auction includes a day of fun digging (6 hours), guaranteed discovery, and a lot of excitement (maximum 4 people, please). You can keep up to $2000 of what you find, and purchase other items found if you desire, for mutually agreed prices of half their commercial value. Donated by James Zigras, Avant Mining Company. Trips like this have been valued easily at $4000-5000 in our previous Live Auction Events, and I can say that the families or groups of friends who went, were beyond happy!
