Item Description

This piece is labeled as coming from Intervale, New Hampshire, and not the Hurricane Mountain localities, but this could be an oversight as Hurricane Mountain is only about 4 miles east of Intervale. This attractive thumbnail is a lovely example of the fairly obscure Arfvedsonites from this area, but what really makes this one stand out is that it has a rarely seen scepter-esque growth. The faces are lustrous with a chatoyance that can be seen when the crystal is rotated in the light, and they shimmer against the black hue on the Arfvedsonite. No damage and very attractive in person. If you collect thumbnails, minerals of New England or you just like unusual crystals, this is a cool one to add to your collection.

Both Bill and Anne, at various times, served as president both of the Mineralogical Society of Cleveland and of the Micromineral Society of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and Anne was inducted into the mi The rare barium lithium beryllium phosphate Wilancookite was named in their honor in 2015.
