Item Description

A gorgeous and sculptural specimen of these elusive Aragonites from the Stevenson-Bennett Mine in New Mexico featuring white Aragonite aggregates, composed of thin "needle"-like crystals which have formed radial groups, associated with a handful of translucent, colorless, modified trigonal crystals of Calcite. The Aragonite shimmers all over, with a directional / chatoyant luster that is rare for the species, and simply captivating in person. A really choice example of these distinctive and downright rare specimens from this old lead-silver mine. I believe this is the finest specimen of this material that we've ever had to offer in the auctions, so if you collect carbonates or minerals of New Mexico, don't miss out.

From the collection of Dave Stoudt, with a couple dealer labels from Arizona Minerals (Mark Hay / Dick Morris) and Phil Scalisi, who stated that the piece was formerly from the Grace Dearborn collection (Boston Society of Natural History).
