Item Description

Tarnowitzite is the familiar name for plumboan (lead-rich) aragonite (which of course is a polymorph of calcite). It is uncommon, with good crystals being known from under 20 localities worldwide (including the best from Tsumeb). This specimen from Morocco is unusually large and aesthetic for the species and locale, with arborescent sprays and a parallel-growth cluster of glistening two-toned crystals attached to a small shard of galena matrix. Essentially solid tarnowitzite! Straw-yellow fluorescence. Valued $600-800. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection.
