Very fine, single Aragonite crystal from the famous mines mine in Herrengrund , a land that seems to have been part of many countries over the tim eminerals were labeled in old collections - with a very rare, elongated and twinned habit. This Aragonite is gemmy to translucent, has a sharply-formed, hexagonal habit, and very good luster. The high luster makes it sparkle and it is even better in person, to be sure. These pieces are part of a century-old Italian collection that was recently acquired. Rare in such robust style, this is a seldom seen variety. Herrengrund minerals are particularly desirable. Cups made from the copper taken from the mines at Herrengrund, Hungary (now Spania Dolina, Slovakia) in the 16th or 17th centuries, and it might have been worked as far back as Roman times. Specimens from the 1700-1800s were highly treasured in old collections and seldom seen today.
