Item Description
Everybody is familiar with the beautiful classic purple Aragonites from the various localities in Spain. The Molina de Aragón area is the type locality (and namesake) for the species, which was named in 1797. This is a wonderful specimen of Aragonite from this world-famous locality featuring a doubly-terminated, 5.2 cm pseudohexagonal (twinned) group of sharp, lustrous, translucent, beautiful purple colored prismatic crystals with smaller secondary Aragonites flaring out at various directions, but the most important aspect of the piece is that the crystals are on MATRIX which is TREMENDOUSLY RARE for the material. It's not only a matrix specimen, but it's very aesthetic and displayable to boot! The gorgeous and seldom seen purple color of the crystals makes the piece all the more enticing. If you collect European minerals, carbonates or if you just appreciate superb examples of well-known minerals, do not miss out on this eye-catching and incredibly hard to find piece from this historic locality. No real damage of note that I can see with the naked eye. Valued at $2,000 for the quality, size and rare matrix component.
