Aragonite (RARE locality specimen) (ex Chet Lemanski Collection)

Item Description

An incredibly hard to find Aragonite specimen from the Konrádovce basalt quarry in the historic Banská Bystrica Region of south-central Slovakia. This is the first specimen of this material that we've ever had to offer, and I could only find TWO other pieces listed on mindat.org, so they are certainly not common on the market. This piece features a central vug hosting sharp, GEM QUALITY to translucent, nearly colorless, tapered prismatic crystals of Aragonite inside of solid grey-black basalt. Individual crystals are hard to measure, but the central crystal is approximately 3.0 cm. A really attractive specimen from this lesser known locality, and certainly a must-have for any fan of Aragonite, carbonate minerals, trap rock minerals or specimens from Slovakia. Priced at $800. Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
