Item Description

Aragonite specimens are EXTREMELY RARE from this Creede District mine, the first major discovery in the district. This is an impressive and unusual large two-sided cave or vug specimen of sculptural coral-like aragonite growths. Very interestingly, one side has a preferential oxide coating indicating precipitating fluid movement onto the oxide-coated side. The boxwork matrix itself is unusual and noteworthy. The Creede silver mining camp came into prominence in 1889 (MINDAT) and this outstanding old-timer undoubtedly dates to prior to World War I. Possibly unique, this fine large piece is a MUST for the Colorado or species collector. Ex Paterson Museum Collection.
