Item Description
An attractive specimen of Aragonite (possibly copper-bearing based on the light blue color) from Tsumeb. At first glance, it looks like this could be some kind of a pseudomorph as there are somewhat "hollow" or "cast"-like formations, which seem to have been replaced by the Aragonite. With that said, Aragonite rarely pseudomorphs another species from Tsumeb in my experience, so it's a bit of a conundrum. It's still a rather showy specimen, highly displayable, and with that pleasing color, and no real damage I can see, it would make a very worthwhile addition to any Tsumeb suite. The largest individual formation measures about 7 mm long.
This piece comes from the collection of John Dagenais (#JD-937), a collector from the Pacific Northwest. John started collecting in 1969 and progressed to micromounting, and later built suites of specimens from the Chuquicamata Mine in Chile, the Tsumeb Mine in Namibia, the Majuba Hill Mine in Nevada, the Black Pine Mine in Montana and the Tintic District in Utah, among other places.
