Item Description

Many of the famous Fluorite specimens from the Rogerley and nearby mines can have some Aragonite associated with the Fluorite, and it often makes for a visually-dramatic contrast. However, it is rather rare in practice. With two windows showing the deep green Fluorite below, this nearly-complete coating creates an entirely different look. It is fascinating, as well as attractive, to look closely and see the penetration twins reflected in the Aragonite. The twins reach up to 1.4 cm in size, and you can actually sense a little hint of the Fluorite's deep green color coming through the Aragonite, particularly over the faces. And where exposed, the great fluorescence can literally shine like a beacon. Retaining the coating has helped preserve this aesthetic, and mineralogically interesting, piece. Recently deaccessed from the Tim Sherburn collection.
