Item Description

The Aragonites from Tazouta are distinct for their fine quality, interesting crystallization and beautiful color and form. This piece is a dramatic, large "floater" group consisting of a pair of "disco balls" that are loaded with sharp, lustrous, translucent pseduohexagonal crystals that range in color from a translucent beige tone to a strong brick red (caused by iron inclusions) to create this fantastic bi-colored display specimen. The piece is in amazingly good shape, with very little damage, but I'm really drawn to the superior luster of the crystals. A lot of the Aragonites from this locality can be dull and "dingy", but this one is really eye-catching and impressive both from the standpoint of size and quality. Lastly, and perhaps most notably, this particular habit / style is rare from this locality as the majority of the Aragonites I've seen from Tazouta are clusters, but not well-defined "balls" like this. We just picked this piece up from a prominent Midwest collection that we purchased a few weeks ago. I would say this one would be valued between around $1,500 for size, appearance and quality.
