Item Description

A classic cabinet sized specimen of this iconic material featuring several radial clusters of sharp, lustrous, well-formed, pseudo-hexagonal sixling twinned crystals of Aragonite with a reddish-brown hue (due to iron oxide coating). The piece is nearly a complete "floater", but a there are few contacted areas, so it's not totally pristine. The largest crystal measures 1.0 cm long. Most of the Aragonites are gemmy to translucent when backlit. It's not common to find such big showy display pieces of this material, especially with such good aesthetics. From the collection of Richard ("Dick") Philip Hauck formerly of Bloomfield, New Jersey and now a resident of Franklin, New Jersey. Dick is an avid collector of minerals, books, and mining memorabilia, along with being an accomplished author in the mineral world. Arguably, his greatest claim to fame is being the co-founder of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, NJ. Dick purchased the land on which the Sterling Hill Mine resides in 1988, and the museum has been running strong since.
