Item Description
A classic Aquamarine crystal from Mt Antero. This is one of the most famous historic pegmatite localities in the western United States. The piece features a 2.5 cm, sharp, lustrous, very gemmy, pale blue colored hexagonal prism of Aquamarine associated with small white blocky crystals of Albite. Interestingly, the center of the basal termination shows a small but notable "hollow" opening, which is rare, but not unheard of for Aquas. Lastly, if you look at the upper portion of the crystal, you can see some very thin "tube"-like inclusions, which almost give the piece a "cat's eye"-like effect. A lovely little thumbnail for any fan of gem crystals, Beryls or minerals from Colorado / Mt Antero. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California. You can read Gary's obituary here https://www.dcourier.com/news/2019/apr/27/obituary-gary-richard-weaver/
