Item Description

The localities around Groton, New Hampshire are among the most well-known pegmatite localities in all of New England. The Palermo No. 2 Mine is not known as a big specimen producer, but some fine pieces have come out from time to time, including some excellent gem quality Aquamarines. This stone is from one of the owners of the Palermo No. 2 Mine, Robert Whitmore, and was faceted by Howard Ewing. What makes the stone so significant is that it is undoubtedly one of the largest and CLEANEST stones I've seen from any locality in New Hampshire. For reference, you can see an example of the gem quality crystals found at this locality here (https://www.mindat.org/photo-293315.html), and this stone was faceted from a very similar quality piece of rough. It is a remarkable, large, pale blue color, "Emerald" cut gem with only very very slight inclusions. Certainly one of the most impressive examples of gem grade Beryl that we've ever had to offer from New Hampshire. A must have stone for anybody who collects gems of New England or the United States, or a fan of gem quality Beryl. Keep in mind that Aquamarine is the birthstone for the month of March, so this would make a fabulous gift for someone with a birthday in that month, and it could easily be set into jewelry to create a stunning ring or pendant. The high retail value on this gem is $3,680.00.
