Item Description

The Aquamarine specimens from the Sawtooth Mountains / Batholith of Idaho are well-known for their amazingly saturated color. You won't find many of them on the market, as the area in which they are found is notably inhospitable and remote. This piece comes to us from the collection of Geary Murdock, who personally collected the piece in the mid 1970s. Although you don't see many of Geary's Aquamarine discoveries on the market today, they are almost certainly the finest Aquamarines from any North American locality in terms of color, quality and gemminess. This piece is essentially a reference specimen, but it's filled with many sharp, STRONG blue color, prismatic hexagonal crystals associated with Smoky Quartz on cream colored Microcline matrix. Many of the crystals are contacted, so please keep this in mind when bidding. For the size of the crystals, the color is notably strong especially when compared to equal sized crystals from localities in Pakistan or Brazil. The reverse side of the piece (not pictured) shows some small areas of a reddish mineral that could be Spessartine(?) Garnet. From the worldwide collection of noted Idaho collector Geary Murdock. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/36634006/geary-jack-murdock
