Item Description

A hard to find specimen of Aquamarine on matrix from the lesser-known Blue Lady Mine in San Diego County, California. The piece features a 2.0 cm, sharp, lustrous, translucent, pale blue color, hexagonal crystal of Aquamarine sitting atop "snowball"-esque groups of bladed white Albite (var: Cleavelandite). Additionally there are some dark blue (nearly black), thin prismatic crystals of Tourmaline. When viewed up close, some of the Tourmalines show that they have a slight fibrous quality to them. If you collect pegmatite minerals, San Diego County minerals or general California minerals, don't miss out on this one, as you probably won't see anything from this mine for years as it is currently located on property managed by San Diego State University, and collecting is not allowed. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
