When it comes to faceted gem from localities in the United States, some of the most well-known examples of gem quality Aquamarine are those from the famous Mt. Antero locality. Some collectors don't realize that the nearby neighbor locality at Mt. White has also been a source of facet-grade material of equal quality, though in a much lower quantity. Fine gems from Mt. White are MUCH rarer than those from Antero on the market, and I can honestly count the number of faceted Aquas that I've seen from Mt. White on both hands in my life. This stone is a beautiful custom faceted example with a "Freeform" shape, and an enticing pale icy blue color. What makes it really special is the fact that it has a "Fantasy" cut. This style of cutting is where the underside/pavilion/culet area of the gem has actually been carved to create beautiful geometric patterns, freeform designs or unique shapes that are seldom seen in any colored stones on the market today. The gem was cut by Brett Kosnar, who is a 4-time AGTA Spectrum Award winning gem cutter from Colorado. Fine quality, and a rare locality make this a very desirable stone, and it's also the birthstone for March, so it could make a great gift idea for anybody with a March birthday.
