Aquamarine on Orthoclase with Hyalite Opal

One of the finest specimens in our auctions, this is a top-quality matrix piece of superb Aquamarines with gemmy luster and intense Erongo-blue color. They stand upright and stark against a matrix of partially etched Orthoclase, capped in places by hightly fluorescent Hyalite Opal overgrowth. The Aquas are terrific - excellent color and luster, gemmy terminations, and the largest is 5 cm tall. The termination, on its right side, shows a secondary growth : a thin layer of slightly different colored aquamarine atop the main core. For sheer aesthetics, this is a wonderful specimen in every way. It has a lot of 3-dimensionality, something these often lack. And, it is in nearly pristine condition (to all but the most careful eye which can detect only minor edge wear). Often, such upright crystals have heavy damage. Valued $2000
