Item Description
This unusual aquamarine stands out even amongst a crowd of Pakistani aquamarine discoveries of the last 40 years, and for that reason it was long in the private collection of well-known aquamarine/beryl addict/collector, Gene Meieran. It is a surprising piece, with subtle details as you examine it closely. The crystal, first of all, because of its shape looks more like a blue morganite than a normal aquamarine! Why are morganites from here generally truncated, while aquas are elongated? It is 5.5 cm across, and gem gem gem, with a great brightness to it. Looking inside, with such clarity, you can see subtle surface features (strange geometric ingrowths at close inspection) and also some inclusions (schorl needles, and a phantom within). It has the highest glassy luster you can ask for on a Pakistani aquamarine. Donated by Meieran to the Museum, and now deaccessed for auction. This comes with a custom base. No repairs. No damage to the beautiful crystal.
