Item Description

The Mack Mine on Rincon Moutain, discovered in 1903, is best known for producing small amounts of aquamarine crystals throughout its history. "The deposit was one of the earliest sources of gem quality beryl in San Diego County." (MINDAT). Mineral specimens of any variety are rare from this obscure Rincon District pegmatite. This substantial old-time large textbook hexagonal lustrous terminated layered aqua has pleasing mottled light apple-green color with zones of translucence. Complete all-around and technically doubly terminated. The broken base has been rehealed. A fine and classic old-time specimen, as it comes with a Lazard Cahn label, a prominent Colorado Springs dealer, who passed away in 1940. See the 2002 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 33, No. 5. A rare large aqua from the Mack Mine and an old material that is very seldom on the market. Mass is 159 grams.
