Item Description
Most people think of Aquamarine gems as being a light blue colorl. This stone is from Nigeria, and unlike Aquamarine gems from Brazil or Pakistan, this one has a richer blue color. This material is 100% natural, not heated or treated in any way. Almost all Beryl contains some kind of a chromaphore that causes the different color (i.e., iron, chromium, manganese etc.) but you rarely see Beryls with this much blue in them in a 1+ carat stone. THIS gem is nearly 15 carats, and while it's not clean (there are visible inclusions), it's still an impressive stone of this beautiful material. Honestly, you almost can't call this Aquamarine, it really should be called "Blue Beryl", as the definition for Aquamarine typically refers to softer colored stones. Honestly, I have only seen a few of these stones over the years, and they're always smaller, so when you have a gem this size, it's a big deal. This stone has a shallow "Oval Cabochon" cut. A great stone for collectors, or a perfect candidate for the center stone of a pendant, especially for someone with a March birthday, as Aquamarine is the birthstone for that month.
