Item Description
A dramatic older Aquamarine specimen from Pakistan, mined circa 1995. The piece features a fine, sharp, GEM/gemmy, lustrous, light blue color, prismatic hexagonal crystal of Aquamarine measuring 6.3 cm long with an unusual slender crystal in parallel growth on the side. The Aquas are sitting beautifully on snow white, bladed groups of Albite (var: Cleavelandite) with minor associated silver Muscovite and Quartz. The dichotomy of having two Aquamarine crystals growing together with such notably different thicknesses is highly unusual in the mineral world. Some have speculated that this could be a twin of Beryl (sharing a common plane), but there has never been a confirmed twin of Beryl in any literature on the subject. No damage to speak of, and very eye-catching. The termination of the main larger Aqua has a love steep pyramidal termination, and the upper portion is nearly 100% WATER CLEAR. Upon close inspection I can see that the base of the main Aquamarine crystal is actually recrystallized ("rehealed") on the base, so it's technically doubly-terminated! If you look at the center of the specimen, you can actually see a strange hollow cavity that could possibly be a "cast" after a preexisting species. Overall it's a fantastic display piece from the standpoint of quality and aesthetics which combined with the odd morphology of the two Aquamarine crystals makes for a really one-of-a-kind specimen. From the collection of Richard A. Kosnar. Valued at $3,500.
