Item Description
When it comes to Aquamarine, Pakistan is the most productive country for specimens in the modern age of mineral collecting. Some of the very finest quality Aquamarine specimens come from the various pegmatites in the Pakistani Himalayas, especially the pieces from around Shigar. This area has produced some of the most exciting Aquamarine specimens in the last few decades. This specimen features excellent quality, very sharp, highly lustrous, GEM quality, gentle blue color prismatic crystals of Aquamarine free of matrix. The piece is in great shape overall, with only minor roughness near the base. Large portions of the crystals are completely transparent, with minor "wispy" inclusions. A very attractive gem crystal specimen from this most prestigious of Pakistani pegmatite localities. The piece weighs 12.71 grams. From the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman. Dave is now retired, but among other things, he was the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s. He is also the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures". The piece was given to Dave as a gift by his son-in-law, Rich Kosnar in June of 1984 and the hand-written label from Kosnar accompanies the piece.
