Item Description
This crystal is from a find in early 1970s at Padre Paraiso. The crystal is a lovely, very gemmy, beautiful blue-green color prismatic hexagonal crystal showing both first and second order prism faces. The piece is essentially a "floater" as it is doubly-terminated and complete all around, though it does have a bit of irregular growth on the back (not what I consider damage) where it may have grown against another crystal and finished crystallizing once they were separated. This piece was a fairly big deal back in the day as it was found at a time when there were no gem Aqua crystals from Pakistan or Namibia on the market, and it was truly rare to find gemmy, euhedral crystals like this from any locality. The piece comes from the collection of the well-known dealer Richard Kosnar (the namesake for the phosphate Kosnarite) who made a name for himself in his early years as a dealer by traveling to Brazil often in the 1970s where he brought back many significant gem mineral specimens. Specimen weight is 18.20 grams. This specimen is valued between $1,250-$1,500.
