Item Description
This specimen dates back to the mid 1990s. This piece is a fine quality, doubly-terminated, very pale blue colored "floater" crystal of Aquamarine that is complete all the way around. This is what you'll see referred to as a "gem pencil" in the mineral collecting world. Not only is the crystal virtually WATER CLEAR throughout, it has a very tiny amount of "cat's eye" effect from a small amount of etching on one termination. Additionally, one of the six prism faces show light, but distinct "caret" shape growth patterns. If you catch the light in just the right way, you can see them reflecting. These kind of repeating growth lines on the surface of an Aquamarine crystal are not common in my experience. I can't find any damage on the piece whatsoever. A tiny amount of an unknown black mineral (possibly Schorl, Hematite or Rutile?) can be seen on one end of the piece, but other than that it's pure Aqua. A wonderful fine quality single gem crystal from this famous pegmatite producing area in Pakistan. Specimen weight is 4.5 grams.
