Aquamarine (Cat's Eye)

Here's something you don't normally seen in Beryl, especially from Madagascar. Beryl is beloved for it wide range of colors, larger size stones and amazingly clean material. One of the most unusual occurrences in Beryl gems is the "cat's eye" effect. This is seen in gems such as Tourmaline, Sillimanite and Chrysoberyl, but you don't see many of these Beryls of any variety that show a good cat's eye. This particular stone is a very attractive "Oval Cabochon" cut Aquamarine cat's eye gem from Madagascar. The stone shows a fairly sharp eye in person under a strong penlight. It's a unique stone with a soft grey-blue color, and I have a hard time finding good cat's eye Aquas these days, and they are almost non-existent from Madagascar.
