Item Description
The name Beryl comes from the Greek world “beryllos” which referred to a precious blue-green or seawater colored stone, but now is used for all colors of the species. Beryl is a favorite among collectors and dealers because of the broad spectrum of colors and the ability to obtain large clean gems. Aquamarine is one of the most popular varieties of Beryl on the market today. Here we have a beautiful matched 5 stone set from the famous Alto Ligonha Pegmatite Field in Mozambique featuring attractive, light blue colored "Oval" cut stones with near eye-clean clarity. The stones were cut from a single piece of rough that was mined in the late 1960s at Alto Ligonha, and you would be hard-pressed to find another 5 stones like them anywhere on the market today. Gem quality Aquamarines are almost impossible to find from this locality, and the price seems to be rising throughout the gem trade on material from even reliable sources like Brazil and Pakistan.
