Item Description

Wreathed at its base by minor white albite matrix, this is a very large (420 grams - or about a pound in weight!), lustrous and mostlly translucent, sky-blue, aquamarine crystal. It has a uniform and classic pastel blue color, not pale at all. The zone to 1.5 cm at the termination is nearly limpid and very gemmy. The crystal suffered a break in situ approximately 1/3 up from the bottom - noted, but this does not deter from the sheer impact and beauty of the piece. The crystal, once broken in the pocket, than had some slight further growth such that the repair line is a little jagged, due to the offset of new growth of the crystal after it broke in formation (actually this is kind of interesting), and so the repair is good and clean, just a simple lock-fit, though with a slightly protruding bit at the edges. Of course, if you unrepaired it, you would still have a (then pristine) very large and fat, major aquamarine crysatl just from the top two thirds portion! Ex Joe Budd Collection
