Apophylllite on Gyrolite (Nowakowski Coll.)

Item Description

An aesthetic and showy two-sided combination from this famous and extinct Mumbai (Bombay) quarry. Stacked, tan, intergrown bladed gyrolite balls are richly covered with glassy, translucent, colorless, tetragonal, apophyllite crystals. The quarry closed around 1990 due to population growth. The Robert Nowakowski Collection label says Jalgaon, but gyrolite is very rare from there and this piece is very similar to Malad Quarry material.
