Item Description

A very hard to find specimen from the famed Talnakh Deposit in the high Russian Arctic. This area lies between the Central Siberian Plateau and West Siberian Plain sitting at the base of the 1,700-meter high Putoran Mountains. Talnakh is known for its copper and nickel deposits, but it has also produced many other minerals, ranging from common to rare, often in fine crystallized examples. This piece is the ONLY specimen of Apophyllite with Pectolite that we've seen from the locality and it features fine, sharp, lustrous, tabular, slightly smoky/silvery colored crystals of Apophyllite (the specific species is presumed to be Fluorapophyllite-K, but it hasn't been analyzed to know for certain), which play host to beautiful soft pink colored radiating "balls" of Pectolite measuring up to 6 mm across. Specimens from this mine are virtually impossible to find on the market, and a piece like this might be the only one available anywhere, as I've never seen another like it. Maybe a few more exist, buried in a drawer in a museum in Russia, but you won't find another like this on the open market, so don't miss out. The piece was mined circa 1980s-1990s, and you're not likely to see another one, as it's virtually impossible to get your hands on something from this locality these days.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#557 Ru ), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
