Item Description
This is a KILLER thumbnail of apophyllite! The crystal is 2 cm across, and complete 360-degress around, like a splayed-out cube. It has INTENSE, unusual color. There is perhaps an image of Steve as a high-level collector who only collects minerals of big size and insane value, and this is just not true. Rather, Steve collects minerals of insane QUALITY in any size and price range. I have seen him buy $50 rocks and $50,000 rocks in the same parcel, and be equally happy with both. The collection is bigger, therefore, than people really know, and contains many such pieces he loves but there is just not room now to keep all the goodies accumulated in 40 years of collecting this broadly. This is not a terribly valuable specimen, maybe $200-250 on a good day to somebody who appreciates how insanely good this is for a "balanced thumbnail" amongst all the "simply small" pieces of apophyllites, and who needs it for a thumbnail collection to go with all the fancier species that cost more money, out there. There is a huge difference between those two ways of looking at a small rock, and the resulting competition-level quality of a piece like this that stands from the crowd. Frankly, its my favorite piece in this whole update, even. And I have seen maybe ten thousand apophyllites so I am pretty jaded to them normally.
